Charlie Rangel, a primer

Tax cheat or stupid?

1. Used a rent-stabilized NY apartment as an office.
2. Failed to report rental income ($75,000) of villa he owned in the Dominican Republic. Owed $9,500 in taxes.
3. Took "homestead" tax break on Washington DC house for years, while simultaneously living in multiple rent-stabilized apartment in NY, breaking a variety of laws in both locations.

Now Charlie, as you may know, is Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. Which, ironically, is in charge of writing tax legislation and bills affecting Social Security, Medicare, and other entitlement programs.

Fox. Hen House.
