In this defense of the Burka, the author writes:
To those who wear it by choice, the burka is a symbol of faith, modesty and protection. But to the Western mind-set, it symbolizes oppression.
I would say that it is more than just a "symbol" of oppression. It is a tool for the oppressors. You HAVE to click on that (second) link.
