And, I lurv you Thom Yorke, but you're an idiot.

With reference to the importance of the project, Yorke says: “We will never wake from the nightmare of climate change unless our national governments and the European Union act. They are the only ones who can put the structures in place that will help us tackle climate change.

I hope this doesn't affect our relationship.

Trying to stay relevant

Let's take a visit to see what the kids are listening to ... this little ditty is number one on iTunes.

"Low" by Flo Rida

[Verse 1:]
I ain't never seen nuthin that'll make me go,

So sexual, she was flexible
Professional, drinkin X and ooo
Hold up wait a minute, do I see what I think I
Whoa
Did I think I seen shorty get low
Ain't the same when it's up that close
Make it rain, I'm makin it snow
Work the pole, I got the bank roll
Imma say that I prefer them no clothes
I'm into that, I love women exposed
She threw it back at me, I gave her more
Cash ain't a problem, I know where it goes

She had them

Chorus:]

The whole club was lookin at her
She hit the flo [She hit the flo]

[Verse 2:]

Three stacks (come on, now that's three grand)
[ Low lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
What you think I'm playin baby girl
I'm the man, I'll bend the rubber bands

That's what I told her, her legs on my shoulder
I knew it was ova, that Henny and Cola
Got me like a Soldier
She ready for Rover, I couldn't control her
So lucky oo me, I was just like a clover
Shorty was hot like a toaster
Sorry but I had to fold her,
Like a pornography poster
She showed her

[Chorus:]
Apple Bottom Jeans [Jeans]
Boots with the fur [With the fur]
The whole club was lookin at her
She hit the flo [She hit the flo]

P90X Update

Since you're all DYING to know ...

I'm on week four (I know, I know, I supposedly started at the beginning of the year, and it would appear that I'm a tad behind, but I pulled something and took a break and started over) and it's going ok. This is a break week- although I don't really define break as doing twice as much yoga as I did before. I ... how do I put this gently ... FRAKING HATE yoga. Or Frakking. Whatever, Steve.

So, I'm feeling better; a bit more in shape. I'm able to actually DO moves that I was unable to do in the beginning. But, I haven't yet seen any earth-shattering bodily changes. I'm not discouraged, I supposed, but not really encouraged either. I'm in stasis. Wait and see.

I don't do Oscar rants anymore

Because the Oscars are just irrelevant. I don't believe I've seen a single movie nominated, and I just about forgot they were on last night. Pride and Prejudice was on PBS, so that is what I watched last night.

But, if you feel you must SIMPLY have a bit of Oscar snark, here you go.

All you gotta do is ask ...

Kelley said she didn't know Obama's positions ... so I'm gonna round up a few of 'em.

Obama's New Deal:

Democrat Barack Obama said Wednesday that as president he would spend $210 billion to create jobs in construction and environmental industries, as he tried to win over economically struggling voters.

Obama's investment would be over 10 years as part of two programs. The larger is $150 billion to create 5 million so-called "green collar" jobs to develop more environmentally friendly energy sources.

Sixty billion would go to a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to rebuild highways, bridges, airports and other public projects. Obama estimated that could generate nearly 2 million jobs, many of them in the construction industry that's been hit by the housing crisis.

In addition to raising taxes on the productive members of society, and reducing taxes on those who already pay a pittance, Obama's got this little nugget:

Obama also said he'd simplify the tax code so that any employed American with a bank account can do their taxes in minutes if they take the standard deduction. It makes sense, he said, because the Internal Revenue Service already collects wage and bank account information.

"There's no reason the IRS can't send Americans pre-filled tax forms to verify," he said. "This means no more worry. No more wasted time. No more extra expenses for a tax preparer."

So, you check a box on some form, and the government sends you your tax form to simply sign! Viola! I find it amazing that the same people who oppose FISA, and are generally so mistrustful of government are perfectly content to trust their government with their taxes. And Health Care. And Social Security. And ...

I tell you, the day the majority of Americans no longer pay income taxes ... well, then we're going to go the way of Rome. And, that day is coming closer every year. That graph is frightening.

One of the biggest obstacles facing President Bush’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform is the fact that America has become divided between a growing class of people who pay no income taxes and a shrinking class of people who are bearing the lion’s share of the burden.

Despite the charges of critics that the tax cuts enacted in 2001, 2003 and 2004 favored the “rich,” these cuts actually reduced the tax burden of low- and middle-income taxpayers and shifted the tax burden onto wealthier taxpayers. Tax Foundation economists estimate that for tax year 2004, a record 42.5 million Americans who filed a tax return (one-third of the 131 million returns filed last year) had no tax liability after they took advantage of their credits and deductions. Millions more paid next to nothing.

Some people, who pay NO income tax still get a "rebate." It's not really a rebate, since they didn't pay it. It's merely a form of wealth transfer.

Broadly speaking, the 42.5 million zero-tax filers are: low-income, young, female-headed households, part-time workers, and beneficiaries of the $1,000 per-child tax credit or the Earned Income Credit.

And how's this for a voting block for Democrats?

That said, the percentage of non-payers within each ethnic or racial group does vary: 28.6 percent of Asian Americans tax filers get back every dollar withheld, 31.1 percent of white American tax filers will owe nothing, and 41.7 percent of African Americans will file a tax return with no liability.

So, why have I gone off on this wild tangent? Because every Democratic candidate continually beats the drum about the unfairness of taxes. They race bait, and pander to those who pay NO INCOME TAX at ALL by stating they're going to give them breaks and make the wealthy "pay their fair share."
hese findings raise serious questions about the future of the U.S. income tax system. Are any future tax cuts, or even tax reforms, possible when the lion’s share of the tax burden is increasingly borne by a shrinking pool of taxpayers who – at least on paper – appear to be "upper-income"? And will the expanding pool of non-payers demand even higher income taxes? These are questions lawmakers must begin to debate.

Please, remember this when Obama and the Democrats talk about taxes. The day the majority pay nothing insofar as taxes is the say of our demise as a country.

What do dictators do when they retire?

I'm guessing ... they die. Or, should we expect to see pictures of Castro playing golf with Danny Glover and Steven Spielberg?

Little Fallujah

Monica Conyers, the City Council President Pro Tem of Detroit and wife of John Conyers, added yet another layers of petard to Detroit by threatening a member of Detroit's pension board with gun violence.

Conyers and DeDan Milton, a staffer for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, brought Wednesday's meeting of the General Retirement System board to a halt when an argument began after Conyers asked that the board pay for a firm to conduct a study about a potential investment, said Sheila Kneeshaw, a trustee on the board.

Milton told Conyers that the board already had determined it could not afford to fund the study. "It just blew from there," said Kneeshaw, who was elected to the position by city employees.
"There was threats made. There was vulgar language," Kneeshaw said. "And it wasn't DeDan Milton's fault. She was ranting and raving."

Milton filed a report with Detroit police at 12:48 p.m., saying she verbally attacked him and had to be restrained.
Conyers "then threatened to shoot the victim with her gun," the report states.

Stay classy, Monica. Reports of the incident differ, though.

Conyers’ chief of staff Sam Riddle said it was Milton who instigated the incident by cursing at her during Wednesday's meeting.

“Monica is no shrinking violet,” Riddle said. “He starts yelling at her. She responds aggressively and in street lingo, it was on.”

Riddle said two people restrained Milton and he held Conyers back. He said she never threatened to use a gun.

“What she said was: ’I’ve got a bigger gun than your gun -- my husband,’ ” Riddle said. “She was talking about a political gun.”

I believe that's a version of Do you know who I am?

Another version:

According to the police report filed today by DeDan Milton, an assistant to Kilpatrick, Conyers "threatened to shoot (Milton) with her gun" and made "several aggressive movements toward (Milton) in a threatening manner."

Milton also reported to police that Conyers said she would "have my brothers (mess) you up."

David Clark, chair of Detroit's General Retirement System, backed up Milton's account.

"She ran at him," Clark told The Detroit News. "She told him she would get a gun if she had to and that she has four brothers and they would whoop his a-- if she asked them."

In his police report, Milton said members of Conyers' staff, and others at the meeting, had to restrain her. But Sam Riddle, Conyers' chief of staff, said Milton was the one who had to be restrained. Riddle, who said he witnessed the squabble, said Milton started it by telling Conyers to shut up -- and using an expletive.

Milton declined to be interviewed, and Riddle said Conyers didn't want to talk about the confrontation.

Clark said the pension board plans to meet in a closed session Wednesday to discuss how to handle the situation. He said the board could ask the city council to remove Conyers from the post. A member of council sits on both the city's general retirement board and the police and fire retirement board. Conyers was appointed to the board by her council colleagues.

Clark said the verbal battle started when Conyers came late to the board meeting and wanted to talk about an investment issue that the trustees had already discussed.

"The comment that was made (by Milton) was, 'Can we move forward? We've already discussed this,'" Clark said. "That's what triggered everything."

He said Conyers said she could do what she wanted and called Milton foul names. Clark also said Conyers ran toward Milton and had to be restrained by other trustees.

Loverly.

Poll Question(s)

How's the Global Warming Climate Change where you live?

It's fraking freezing here.

Anyone watching American Idol this season? Got any early favorite?

I sure hope another bland singer doesn't win this year. I know a few of you were Jordin Sparks' fans, but she was never interesting to me.

Not Rhetorical

How many times can an adult man watch True Lies?

Duh moment

What killed Heath Ledger?

A medical examiner concluded this week that Ledger, the Oscar-nominated star of “Brokeback Mountain,” died of “acute intoxication” from using six painkillers, sleep aids and anti-anxiety drugs.

The very same drugs are found in many home medicine cabinets: painkillers OxyContin and hydrocodone; anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax; and sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Only Unisom is over-the-counter.

Same drugs found in many home medicine cabinets? I don't have a ONE of those drugs. But, honestly he had the following in his system:

OxyContin
Hydrocodone
Valium
Xanax
Restoril
Unisom

Mixed all together in his bloodstream. I was given some strong drug (perhaps Hydrocodone) after I donated my kidney. I took it a few times, and it made me so nauseous I figgered the pain was better.

Something evil's afoot in Michigan

News is out today of what the state Dems plan to do with those delegates;they are awarding 73 of 'em to Hillary. The remaining 55 go ... to no one, or the uncommitted. National leadership says unless Michigan holds another election, or a caucus, they will not seat the Delegates. This has shrills for Hillary Michigan Democrats hopping mad:

But the prospect of holding a party-run caucus to pick delegates, while alluring mainly to supporters of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was getting a thumbs-down from influential state party leaders.

Sen. Carl Levin, one of the architects of the Jan. 15 primary, issued a statement saying it "would not be practical or fair to throw out the results of that election."

Former Gov. James Blanchard, chairman of the Clinton campaign in Michigan, said he couldn't imagine a second-chance election.

"They do that in the Soviet Union, but we're not doing it here," Blanchard said. "It's un-American."

In addition to the 73 delegates Clinton will get if the primary results are counted, she has the support of at least seven of Michigan's super-delegates, top party officials and officeholders who are free to support a candidate of their choosing.

I thought that Blanchard quote was extra-super-special. Nice communism comparison. National Democrats are STANDING TOUGH:

Democratic National Committee officials reiterated Friday that Michigan and Florida -- both of which held primary elections earlier than allowed by party rules -- won't have any delegates unless they conduct second, sanctioned, elections or caucuses, or the delegates are reinstated by the convention this summer.

So ... if you don't hold another election or caucus, the delegates WON'T COUNT, unless we simply reinstate them at the convention. Stay Gold, DNC.

The race between Obama and Hillary! is so close the Michigan delegates matter. But perhaps not as much as the Super delegates:

Adding to the friction is the role that so-called super delegates are entitled to play at the party's national convention in Denver, set for August.

Both campaigns are now focusing intensely on those 796 insiders -- Congress members, governors, state party chairs and DNC members from each state -- who could play kingmaker at a competitive convention. Those super delegates are free to vote for the candidate of their choice, regardless of the outcome of nomination contests in their states.

It is a behind-the-scenes campaign that is far different than the lofty discussions of healthcare and global warming that punctuate the public debate, focusing instead on the specific political needs of each undecided super delegate.

What was that Blanchard was saying about this not being the Soviet Union? Because I'm thinking an election decided by fat-cats and insiders is kinda ... Soviety.

It's obvious that the Michigan Democratic party leaders are pulling for Clinton. VERY OBVIOUS. John Conyers, alone, supports Obama. These Hillary supporters/party leaders are the same people pushing for the primary result that unfairly favored Hillary.

Nope, nothing here to see folks.

Spin, spin

I've heard the Mayor's lawyers spin that the documents in question have no bearing on the settlement. That they are personal information that the public has no right to see. Like, I've heard the comparison made, mental health records. But this editorial from The Detroit News spells it out:

To keep the SkyTel text messages from becoming public, the documents released Thursday reveal, Kilpatrick and Beatty signed as "private individuals" a confidentiality agreement with Stefani.

But Kilpatrick and Beatty were not being sued as private citizens. They were brought to court in their role as public officials. And the lawsuit was settled with taxpayer money, not personal funds.

Taxpayers have a right to know what they paid for, and why. That can only happen if all the documents are made public. The appeals court should swiftly reject Kilpatrick's plea to deny Detroit residents what rightfully belongs to them.

The police officers were fired because their investigation lead them to the affair. The Mayor (and his lover) denied they were fired, and denied the affair- the issues are tied together. Sex between consented adults "is" usually a private issue, except when the two use their power and position to manipulate their wrongdoing. The city shouldn't have to pay to keep the Mayor's dirty laundry secret.

Oh where, oh where?

Has my blogroll gone? It's been missing for almost two days.

If anyone sees it, will you tell it I'm sorry and that I miss it. Just come home? It's not the same here without you.

I withdraw into a coccon of Radiohead songs. Except here, where Radiohead is doing a Smith's song

Public Service for Catholics

Today is Ash Wednesday, and you're supposed to fast. It's a modified fast, but it can still be tricky; only one real "meal", no snacking. You can have two smaller "meals" but you're supposed to keep it light.

Anyway, I've got a little aid to get Catholics through the more desperate moments today. When that nagging urge to eat something become unstoppable, imagine this:

McCain/Huckabee for '08!

Feeling nauseous? Hunger pangs gone?

You're welcome.

Super-Duper Fat Tuesday

So, I guess it would be appropriate to drink Hurricanes while I watch the election results?
